Drummer - Composer - Arranger
Jackson Mack is a jazz drummer, composer, and arranger based in Adelaide, Australia.
As a drummer, he has shared the stage with notable artists such as Jazzmeia Horn, Barney McAll, James Muller, Dusty Cox and Clayton Doley. In 2023, Jackson achieved recognition as a finalist at the Generations in Jazz festival. He is a versatile drummer, performing regularly around Adelaide with big bands, jazz ensembles, cabaret, musicals, blues groups, free jazz, and even the occasional alt-rock show.
His group, the ‘Jackson Mack Big Band’, made their debut in 2023 to a sold-out audience alongside vocalist Courteney Hooper. All compositions and arrangements performed by the band are written by Jackson, drawing inspiration from Thad Jones, Billy May, Bill Holman, Bob Brookmeyer, and Duke Ellington, among others. Most recently, the band performed a brand-new mix of compositions and arrangements in a cabaret style show called, ‘A Classy Affair’, featuring the award-winning vocalist, Millie Sarah.
Jackson has completed an Advanced Bachelor of Jazz Performance at the Elder Conservatorium, where he is currently pursuing an Honours degree in Jazz Composition. He tutors drums in specialist music high schools around Adelaide, writes commissioned compositions and arrangements, and workshops high school big bands and jazz combos.
